Belmore is a suburb that features a mixture of residential, commercial and industrial areas. It is located 14 kilometres south-west of the central business district of Sydney. The traditional inhabitants of this place were the Bediagal people.
In 1869, the suburb was given its current name. It was in honour of the Governor of New South Wales from 1868-1872, the fourth Earl of Belmore gave the suburb its current name.
