Introducing the Cleaning Company Used by Some of Australia’s Most Quality-Focused Companies

Gold Coast Regional Botanic Gardens

In “Sights To See in Brisbane“, we going to share with you everything you need to know about “Gold Coast Regional Botanic Gardens”, including what it is and things to do there.

Gold Coast Regional Botanic Gardens is a free park located on Ashmore Road in Benowa, Gold Coast, Australia. It used to be known as Rosser Park, then Rosser Park Regional Botanic Gardens before its current name was given. The park features trails, gardens and the ecosystem of the Mangroves. It also showcases the history of the Aboriginal Yugambeh people.

Things to Do in the Botanic Gardens

The Gardens are an ideal place to do fun activities with family and friends. The committee managing the gardens itself run events and activities for its visitors. There are seasonal events, as well as regular events family members can enjoy throughout the year.

Go for Free Guided Walks

Volunteer guides take visitors for a walk from the Friends’ Centre to the Mangroves down to the Mountains Transect. The walk is accompanied by talks about bush foods, trees, butterflies, native bees and birds as the group traverses through the Closed Forest Gorge, Montane, Wallum Woodland, Gum Tree Corridor and Freshwater Wetlands.

New Interpretive Trails

These are new trails added to the park, which were funded by the Rotary Gold Coast, Southern Pacific Developments and Friends of Gold Coast Botanical Gardens. The two trails are called The Rare and Threatened Plants trail and the Indigenous Plant Use trail. The trails lead around the Gardens allowing visitors to discover new places and facts about their favourite plants.

Kaialgumm Games Trail

This trail is a smartphone or tablet-aided journey that leads to six different sites. Each site has a QR reader where visitors can read about traditional indigenous games and how to play them. The games in this trail used to be played by the young Yugambeh children in order to learn essential life skills such as hunting and fighting. “Kaialgumm” is a Yugambeh word that refers to the hunting chief of the clan.

Join NaturallyGC Little Nature Lovers

This is a program for pre-schoolers, aged three to five years old, and parents. It is a fun way to explore nature in the garden while learning. The program includes a guided walk, activities and story reading. To join the program booking ahead of time is required, which can be done by visiting the Gardens’ official website.

Enjoy a Cup of Coffee

The park has a coffee shop called Coffee at the Gardens. This cafe provides organic coffee, teas, cake and ice cream. Visitors can relax and enjoy their cups at the Friends Centre deck. The coffee shop is open from Monday to Friday, from 6:30 am to 4:00 pm. On Saturdays and Sunday, they are open from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.

Get Fit and Be Fabulous

This is a regular, physical activity for those aged 50 and above. Guided by a professional, personal trainer, it aims to help participants improve their posture, balance and strength in every group workout session. The group meets every Tuesday at 9 in the morning for only $2 per class.

Learn Tai Chi

This is another physical activity for those who are looking to get fit. With guidance from qualified instructors, Tai Chi helps strengthen your body while focusing on body alignment, relaxation and slow movement. The group meets from 8 am to 9 am on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and from 10 am to 11 am on Fridays.

Volunteer for the Gardens

The group of volunteers gather together from May to September and October to April to help with the overall operation of the Botanic Gardens. They participate in several volunteering activities and work as guides, gardeners and botanical artists. The group is handled by the Friends of Gold Coast Regional Botanic Gardens.

Garden Attractions

The Gardens consists of multiple gardens featuring different species of plants. This makes the park an ideal place for family events like weddings or any other social gatherings.

Birds at the Botanic Gardens

The Gardens are home to a wide range of native birds, with the exception of domestic ducks and geese. Sadly, the Gardens have been a dump site for unwanted birds, but domestic fowls are strictly not allowed due to their impact on water quality.

The Butterfly Garden

The Butterfly Garden is one of the favourite attractions in the Gardens. In fact, the selection of plants in the Garden is based on what the local butterflies need.

Horticulture Display Garden

This garden houses an impressive collection of a wide variety of plants from around the world. Some of the plant species that can be found here are the red flowering eucalypts, bottlebrushes and grevilleas, gardenias, magnolias and hedges. The parade of flowers in the Garden, together with the bedding displays, are changed every season.

Rose Garden

As the name implies, this garden houses a wide variety of roses that suits the climate of the city. It was designed and planted by the Gold Coast Rose Society.

Kids Playground

What is a park without a kids playground? The Garden has a perfect spot for kids to play and have fun. It is surrounded by beautiful gardens and is a great venue to host children’s birthday parties.

Aside from those mentioned above, the Garden has lots of other attractions to visit. Some of these are the Closed Forest Gorge, the Eucalyptus Open Woodland, Gum Tree Corridor and the Freshwater Wetlands.
